Filament Yarns

There are basically two types of fibers that are used to make yarn; namely, filament and staple fibers. The fibers that are so long, and that they can work themselves as yarn are called filament fibers. As they do not require twisting to be converted into yarn, they are sometimes also referred to as filament yarn. Most of the fibers that are labeled as filament are manmade in laboratories. Nylon and polyester are two such fibers that are long and strong to be used as yarn for making fabrics. Thread is another term that is used for a type of yarn. This yarn is meant for sewing, and though it is made by twisting of fibers, you feel that it is a single fiber. This happens because wax is used to hold the staple fibers together in the case of a thread.

Polyester Filament Yarn (PFY) is also known as Spin Draw Yarn (SDY) or Polyester Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY). It is mainly used as weft or weaves in making fabrics. PFY can be knitted or woven with any other filament yarn to get fabric of various different varieties. It is mainly used in Home Furnishing Fabrics, Fashion Fabrics, Denim, Terry Towel and others.

PFY yarn is mainly available in 3 lustre

1. Semi-dull (SD)
2. Bright (BR) having circular section
3. Trilobal Bright (TBR) having triangular cross-sections

Filament yarn having trilobal bright lustre is generally used in making bed-sheets, curtains, and carpets. FDY is available in Raw-white as well dope dyed. Dope Dyed yarn can be used to make the colored fabric directly instead of making the fabric with PFY Raw-white first & then dyeing it. Catonic FDY is another variation of Filament yarn. Catonic FDY yarn is made from Catonic PET Chips.

Polyester  yarn is also twisted to make Polyester Embroidery Thread and used mainly in sewing. Globe Thread Canada has exclusive contacts with almost all suppliers & manufacturers and will get our customers the top quality and best prices. We have Polyester Filament yarns available in

- Different Lusters including:
      - Raw White
      - Semi Dull
      - Trional Bright
- Various Denier and No. of Filaments combination

Viscose Filament Yarn, commonly known as “Artificial Silk’ or ‘Art Silk” was a result to find a substitute for silk; it is cellulosic like cotton with aesthetics of silk, but far cheaper than Silk.Viscose Filament Yarn (VFY) is a natural yarn made from Wood pulp or cotton pulp and is also know as Rayon Yarn or Rayon Filament Yarn. With the introduction of range of finer deniers with more number of filaments, Viscose Filament Yarn fabric is similar Cupromonium yarn fabric. Further in segments, like Georgette and Crepe fabrics, fabric made from Viscose Filament is superior to Cupromonium yarn due to particular requirements of the fabric. The other advantages of Viscose Filament Yarn are it is easily available in market.

We offer a wide range of viscose filament yarns which has several applications in weaving & embroidery. We have VFY available in the below specifications

Deniers: 120D, 150D, 300D and 600D.
Lustre: Bright or Full Dull
RW & Dyed in various colors
Packed on Cones

Globe Thread Canada has been exporting world class quality Nylon Fully Drawn Yarn to our customers across the globe and maintaining market leadership in the said yarn supply.

Nylon POY is used as raw material for manufacturing Nylon FDY. Nylon FDY is Manufactured using one stage high speed process in which after stretches, the post processing craft is used to enhance intensity of Nylon FDY by macro viscosity slice spinning. FDY is the entire stretch silk.

The main uses of Nylon FDY are

- Stocking
- Knitting
- Weaving Fabrics
- Weaving Looms
- Hoovering Machines

Nylon FDY can also be knitted or woven with any other filament yarn to get different variety of a fabric. Nylon FDY is generally used for Home Furnishing Fabrics, Fashion Fabrics, Denim, Terry Towel and other. It is available in bright, semi dull and full dull.

Each carbon filament is produced from a polymer such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN), rayon, or petroleum pitch, known as a precursor. For synthetic polymers such as PAN or rayon, the precursor is first spun into filament yarns, using chemical and mechanical processes to initially align the polymer atoms in a way to enhance the final physical properties of the completed carbon fiber. Precursor compositions and mechanical processes used during spinning filament yarns may vary among manufacturers. After drawing or spinning, the polymer filament yarns are then heated to drive off non-carbon atoms (carbonization), producing the final carbon fiber. The carbon fibers filament yarns may be further treated to improve handling qualities, then wound on to bobbins.

Carbon Filament Yarn significantly enhances properties in thermoset and thermoplastic applications, including aerospace, automotive and general industrial applications. Carbon filament yarn generally features a high tensile strength as well as a high tensile modulus. It is available in qualities ranging from 67 to 3200 tex or 1,000 to 48,000 filaments.

Ideally suited for all common processes like for prepregging, filament winding, pultrusion and weaving, braiding Carbon filament yarn is surface treated to improve fiber-to-resin interfacial bond strength. A wide variety of sizings are available.

Filament silk is made out of continuous fiber and is also called reeled silk. Raw silk is a filament silk from which the gum (one of the components of silk) has not yet been removed. Pure silk has had the gum removed. Raw silk is produced by a coarse spinning process; it is less even and slightly knobbed. Raw silk is quite a gummy, sticky substance, so before separating the filaments the cocoons must be softened by immersion in hot water to loosen the gum. Raw silk is typically a short fiber silk recycled from spinning silk.

In the production of mulberry silk only a certain middle section of the cocoon can be unreeled for spinning silk. The waste silk is the raw silk and it has a smooth feel with some bumps and a low luster. Raw silk taken directly from the filature is too fine to be woven. Before it is woven into fabric, it goes through a series of operations which conditions for the loom. They do this by hand-reeling the threads onto a wooden spindle to produce a uniform strand of raw silk.
