HISTORY
Founded in 1980, in Sri Lanka, Globe Thread was primarily a textile material supplier to the local markets until 1985, when we started expanding our footprint into other asian and european markets. Under the leadership of our executive management team , Globe Thread experienced substantial growth as a vertically integrated textile material supply company.
Today, Globe Thread is the market leader in this space and we have established a network of some of the best suppliers and manufacturing facilities to supply the highest quality of material to our customers. Globe Thread has also expanded its marketshare in all types of fibers (Virgin, Recycled etc).
With our head office in Canada’s biggest city and branch offices across the globe, we are always close to our suppliers and customers. We work very hard to provide the best in class service and high quality material to our customers. This allows us to maintain a high customer satisfaction rate among our customers.
As the market expanded, USA and South America has become one of the major sources of business for Globe Thread. 2 branch offices were opened in the USA viz. New York and Miami, to match the market demand. The company also expanded its business into two other verticals.

2000’s saw an explosion of growth for Globe Thread and we have maximized our resources in the UK serving customers in the Europe. A new branch office in Canada was established to serve the ever increasing customer and business demands in USA and Canadian markets. Also a strategic decision was taken to move the head office from Sri Lanka to Canada owing to factors like civil war in Sri Lanka and favourable business environment and proximity to the USA and European markets.
USA market was growing at a very fast pace and the company’s executive management started to put more efforts in capitalizing on this opportunity and establishing market leadership.
Globe Thread opened its first branch office in the european marker in the UK to be closer to its customers and serve them better. The company has established itself as a market leader and was dealing with customers across the USA/Canada, Europe and Asia at this time.
As a result, UK was chosen as a strategic base to serve customers in these markets. West to the USA all the way till Far east countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia.
Based on the learnings of the first 5 years in business and using the networks we built, Globe Thread started its market expansion from 1985. The company, by this time, already was dealing with some of the large and best suppliers and customers in the region. Using this network and expertise, the company expanded its trading into the near middle eastern and european markets.
By this time Globe Thread was already a leading supplier in Asia and was using this deep knowledge to grow in the new markets.
Globe Threads humble beginnings started in this year in the island country of Sri Lanka. Operating from a home base, the company was mainly procuring and supplying to the local markets of Sri Lanka, India and some parts of South East Asia. This was a learning phase for the company and the roots were sown here for the company’s future expansion and market leadership position.
